Alligator Vintage South Carolina Postcard
A native of South Carolina and the southeast, the the gator is virtually unchanged in appearance in the last 3.5 million years. A relic from the dinosaurs, almost totally meat eaters.
Quite common along the sea islands of South Carolina.
American alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) inhabit the southeastern United States. Once a federally listed endangered species, American alligators have recovered and are common in many areas of the Southeast. The species is still listed as threatened because it looks like the American crocodile, which is endangered.
This is an older card that has some yellowing from age.
