ido's immense talent as both singer and song writer ultimately inflate "Life for Rent" with great confidence and musical credibility. This was by no doubt one of the best albums of 2003, and without a shadow of a doubt - one of the very BEST sophomore albums to come from a very respected and treasured still-fresh artist. Indeed "Life for Rent" trumps its predecessor....with such an achievement one can only wonder what may come next.... UPC: 828765013727 ...

"Life For Rent" is Dido's second album. Dido's 1999 debut album, "No Angel", was one of the most unique introductions for an artist with the most angelic voice and hit-ballad potential. While some artists struggle with sophomore efforts, especially those that are the hyped-up descendents of super-genious, hit packed predecessors, "Life for Rent" is both seductive and irresistable as a follow up to the tremendously popular and successful "No Angel". With a dazzling catalogue of eleven enthralling tracks, almost every song could easily qualify for a single-release status - effortlessly trumping any previously occupied chart position, involving not too distant hits of the likes of "Here With Me", "Thank You", or "Hunter". Most worthy of praise, (aside from the radio-friendly super ballad "White Flag"), are the blissfully enchanting "Stoned", "Who Makes You Feel", "Sand in my Shoes" and "Do You Have a Little Time".

Stirring and moving moments on the album belong to "Life for Rent", a very reflective and uplifting track, as well as "Don't Leave Home", another gem that begs of attention. More weaker and distracting moments on "Life for Rent", though very few and in my opinion - surpassable - include "Mary's in India" (though I must admit I like the twist at the end of this song's narrative..) and "This Land is Mine". While occasionally, after three or four listens, the album might seem overwhelmingly balladic, Dido's immense talent as both singer and song writer ultimately inflate "Life for Rent" with great confidence and musical credibility. This was by no doubt one of the best albums of 2003, and without a shadow of a doubt - one of the very BEST sophomore albums to come from a very respected and treasured still-fresh artist.
