Leonard Bernstein's recordings of Copland's Rodeo, Billy The Kid and Appalachian Spring are considered The best by any conductor ever. Billy The Kid was recorded in 1959, Rodeo in 1960 and Appalachian Spring in 1961, all in the early years of Bernstein's directorship of the New York Philharmonic (1958-1969).
