In 1921 a Committee on the memorial, established in Chalons under the chairmanship of Mr MORISE, decided to erect a memorial to Chalons died during the war of 14-18, and entrusted to the artist Mr Dagonet the mission to design and implement a project. 


S'agissant de 'emplacement, Monsieur DAILLY , membre du Comite, proposa que le monument soir erige sur une place publique au cur de la ville plutot qu'au cimetiere. Regarding the location, Mr DAILLY Committee member, suggested that the monument erected on an evening public square in the heart of the city rather than the cemetery.

En 1923 , une somme de 120 000 francs a ete affectee a l'erection du monument et un jury a ete constitue pour choisir entre plusieurs maquettes. In 1923, a sum of 120 000 francs has been earmarked for the erection of the monument and a jury was formed to choose between several models. 

Le 13 octobre 1926 , le maire de Chalons, Marc MILLET , procedait a a la reception definitive des travaux d'execution du monument erige place Saint-Etienne et realise par Gaston BROQUET , statuaire parisien, a qui fut versee la somme de 30 000 francs prevue au marche adopte par le Conseil municipal le 11 juillet 1924 . 

On 13 October 1926, the Mayor of Chalons, Marc MILLET, conducting the final work on the monument erected in St Etienne and directed by Gaston BROQUET, Parisian sculptor, who was paid the sum of 30 000 francs Planned market adopted by the City Council on 11 July 1924.
